June 2025

Dear WASS Members,

Despite fervent lobbying by supporters, when the House of Representatives passed their version of the budget reconciliation bill (One Big Beautiful Bill Act), extension of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) was not included. While this was disappointing, supporters have a chance to have it included in the Senate version.

Staffing firms that have offices in and/or do business in Wisconsin should reach out to Senator Johnson, who is a member of the Senate Finance Committee, and ask him to include an extension of the WOTC program to their version of the reconciliation bill. Firms should feel free to use the sample email text below that was provided by the American Staffing Association (ASA), adding specific WOTC data from their own operations.

WASS is helping ASA spread the word. Please send ASA copies of any communications you send so they can let our lobbyists know which Senators have been contacted.  You can contact Toby Malara, ASA's Vice President of Government Relations at 703-253-2027 or by email at tmalara@americanstaffing.net

Legislative Minutes…another great reason to for being a WASS Member.  As a voice for our industry in Wisconsin, it is important to stay informed and proactive in the face of potential legislative changes. WASS is prepared and ready to advocate for the staffing industry.

Thank you,
WASS Advocacy Committee

Consider sending a letter (or online submission) to urge Senator Johnson
to Include Work Opportunity Tax Credit Extension in Senate Reconciliation Bill
:

The Honorable Ron Johnson
United States Senator
328 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington DC 20510
Dear Senator Johnson:As employers in Wisconsin, I urge you to include a long-term extension of the work opportunity credit (WOTC) in the budget reconciliation bill. WOTC is fundamental to the hiring process in my company and supports Congress’ efforts to reduce dependency on public assistance programs to help reduce Federal and state expenditures.

Two million WOTC certified hires each year not only move away from a life dependent on government support but also acquire job skills that help them stay and prosper in the workforce. We are proud of our WOTC hires and the benefits that are generated to our state and to the national government from participating in this excellent and time-tested program. In fact, since WOTC was enacted in 1996 more than 40,000,000 people on public assistance have moved as a result into the productive private sector workforce.

WOTC plays a vital role in encouraging employers to hire individuals with limited job skills who need to find work as a result of the expansion of work requirements for various Federal social programs. We would be very grateful if you would include a WOTC extension in the Finance Committee reconciliation bill.

Thank you for taking this grassroots action on behalf of the industry.

Respectfully submitted,
